Hello, everyone! This is our forum for OC (Outside Contact) Mafia games. Before playing/hosting, please read through these rules and have a fun time!
Requesting permission to host a game:
No thread may be started for a game if it does not go through this process of approval.
Informal Guidelines:
Games which exist solely to increase post count will not be accepted. Games that require thought and/or involvement from the players are preferred.
Do not post in Mafia games you are not a part in.
Hosting Process:
Are you interested in hosting a mafia game? Read this whole post, as well as this to make sure it goes smoothly.
Your plan is as follows.
Pre-game:
During the game:
If there is a need for a substitution,
After the game:
If you want, you are allowed to create one postgame thread after your game ends, for any remaining discussion.
If you need a ruleset, here is a basic one, but you can moderate it to your own freedom. If you are a player, make sure to read the rules of the game you are currently playing as it may differ from this set of rules. Some of the rules below are for differing types of games, for example: Plurality and day deadlines.
General Game Rules:
0. I am the host of the game, and my word is law. I reserve the right to modkill/godkill or sub anyone out those who break the rules.
1. You can only talk about the game in the game thread unless specified otherwise. Once you are dead you cannot talk to anyone about the game. Knowledge acquired after death cannot be transferred from a dead player to a living player. You can, however, make a "bah" post within 24 hours after your death starting with "N" and a reasonable amount of "O"s. You can also talk about how sad you are, but this post must be contentless.
1.5. Outside influences (eg. Threatening, bribes, wagers, promises, alliances, trust tells) are not tolerated and will be dealth with severely.
2. Every user has a role PM. Role PMs may not be shown to other users on Day 0. They may be shown anytime after. Be warned though, as these can be faked.
2.5. Screenshotting is disallowed. If anyone finds a person encouraging others to screenshot or do so themselves, please be sure to report it.
3. Each day will have a deadline of XX hours. You may vote to lynch users during the day by posting "lynch USER" in bold, or "No lynch" if you don't want to lynch anyone (lynch votes will not count if they're not in the correct format!). It would be nice if you wanted to "unlynch USER", but it is not nessesary. DO NOT edit your previous post to remove the "Lynch USER".
3.5. This game, like most OC games, runs on modified plurality, in that the player with the most votes on them at deadline is lynched, regardless of if it's majority or not. Also, there are no hammers, meaning someone can exceed the amount of votes needed for "hammer", and they will only be lynched at deadline. Also, if there is a tie, nobody will be lynched.
4. Each night will have a deadline of YY hours. This gives you YY hours to send your night action. Please state what you are doing (and your role) in the PM title, it makes it MUCH easier to handle.
4.5. If you're not going to do anything at night, send a PM titled "Night X - idling". This makes keeping track of things easier and informs me that you're still playing the game.
5. Do not edit your post, if you need to correct something make another post.
6. Only sign up if you know you're going to be at least fairly active. It is not necessary to post in the thread, though if you don't, inform the host that you are still active.
6.5. Activity on the server is necessary. If you are not active in the Mafia room, please don't sign up. If you cannot find others in the room to contact them about the game, use forum PMs.
7. Do not try to exploit any loopholes or circumvent the rules.
8. It would be wise if you were to be cautious about what you do!
You may edit this ruleset to fit your game.
Requesting permission to host a game:
- At least one moderator needs to approve a requested game (Which are placed in "Game Proposals") to be hosted. Their approval may be conditional to minor rule changes.
- The requesting party must be constituted of at least one user with an account on this forum.
- The requesting party must be the ones hosting the game, enforcing any rules of the game (Including special game mechanics) and of the forum (Including global and/or forum-specific rules).
- The requesting party must be eligible to host the game. Eligibility is dependent on the category of the game they are hosting, explained below.
- The requesting party must specify if the game requires one or more threads. If more than one is needed, they must specify how many or (if the number cannot be determined in advanced) the reason for having multiple threads.
- If the requesting party can find people who can express support for the game (optional), the chances of the game to be approved will be increased. These people, however, must be willing to play in the game. As a general guideline, 1/4th of the max size of the game will be good. Note that this will probably only be applicable to newer, untested games. The support can be given as a PM to the requesting party, who will then state the support they received in the thread.
- The moderators will decide when the game may be started (which may or may not coincide with the time of approval, depending on the number of games currently running). The game must be started after that time, or it will be locked or deleted. If the signups are not posted within a few days of the timeslot, approval can be withdrawn.
- If the game does not start within a certain amount of time (grace period depending on the number of players; at least 72 hours), the game can be cancelled and if the requesting party still wants the game, they have to reiterate their demand.
No thread may be started for a game if it does not go through this process of approval.

Hosting Process:
Are you interested in hosting a mafia game? Read this whole post, as well as this to make sure it goes smoothly.
Your plan is as follows.
Pre-game:
- Design your game and place it in your game proposal thread. It does not have to be 100% complete, but close to it increases your chances of your game being approved.
- If you want to, you can have a non-playing game design checker to check your game. If the person is someone everyone trusts and approves of it, it will increase the chances of the game being approved.
- When your game is approved, make sure everything is ready (roles, role PMs, flavour, rules, quicktopic) by the time of your game's signup phrase.
- When you can, post your game signups during the allotted timeslot. Remember to state which staff member approved your game (if applicable), and put the difficulty level in the title and the opening post.
- When signups are over, ask a moderator to lock the signup thread and randomise your player list. If there are more players than the maximum player count for your game, they can be included for substitutions.
- Post your actual game thread and begin hosting.
During the game:
If there is a need for a substitution,
- PM everybody (or just the top few) in your entire sub list, asking if anybody wants to sub in. If you are a player, make sure to respond whether you want to be in the game, or not.
- If you get multiple responses, priority goes to those higher on your substitution list.
- If you want/don't have a substitution list, you can allow people who did not sign up to apply for substitution via PM. Add those to the bottom of your substitution list.
After the game:
If you want, you are allowed to create one postgame thread after your game ends, for any remaining discussion.
