NOC Mafia: No Outside Contact
Hello, everyone! This is our forum for NOC (No Outside Contact) Mafia games. Before playing/hosting, please read through these rules and have a fun time!
How to host:
- Make a thread in Game Proposals (X) with your game details.
- A member of the Approval Team will work with you to get it approved and added to the Hosting Queue (X).
- Once you have your game slotted, wait until that day to start your signups.
- Signups are allowed to be open for one week, but more time may be allotted upon request, per Staff's discretion.
- Reach out to Staff for any questions, comments, concerns or issues.
How to play:
- Review this post fully, including the Global Rules (below).
- Read the signup information for the game you intend to sign up for (including the rules).
- Signup for the game by posting "in" to the signup thread.
- Follow the rules, and have fun!
- If you need help contact your Game Host. If you aren't adequately addressed, or the Game Host isn't equipped to help, contact Staff.
Resources:
- FTF's Definitive Forum Hosting Guide (X). Under construction currently, but should be helpful for getting your feet in the water.
- How to do an ISO on Proboards (X). Very helpful tool when playing games.
- How to quote and multi-quote (X), because formatting is hard sometimes.
- Sample Submission (X) and Forum Signup Standard (X). Both of these should be useful for crafting Game Proposals.
- Acronym List (X). Mafia is a jargon-rich game, so this may be useful for making sense of all the noise.
- The Mafia Discussion Board (X). Contains many other various resources and discussion threads about prominent aspects of Mafia.
And if you need to contact a staff member, these two should be able to resolve most forum-centric issues. Otherwise, refer to room-staff.
Board Rules:
- For a given game, you should abide by the rules set forth by your Game Host. However, you can expect to see the rules below applied on a widespread basis.
- Games on this board are No Outside Contact. This means that players within a game are unallowed to communicate with other players outside of the game thread, unless otherwise stated (e.g. factional communication.)
- Don't post in games you aren't in. Don't post in games you aren't alive in, unless otherwise stated (e.g. Treestump role).
- Avoid editing or deleting posts.
- Avoid toxicity. This forum is an extension of the room. You are expected to behave as such.
- Angle-shooting is generally frowned upon and detrimental to game integrity. During the approval process, hosts will be given the tools to insulate against it, but players should hold up their end as well.
- When submitting proposals to host in this board, clearly label them as NOC in order to avoid confusion.
- Games need to be approved beforehand or else they will not be allowed to run.

Updating with the new standard ruleset:
Global Rules:
0. I am the host of the game, and my word is law. I reserve the right to warn, substitute or modkill anyone breaking the rules. The severity of action taken will be proportionate with the severity of the infraction.
1 (a). You can only talk about the game in the game thread unless specified otherwise. Once you are dead you cannot talk to anyone about the game. This includes liking posts. Knowledge acquired after death cannot be transferred from a dead player to a living player.
1 (b). Outside influences (eg. Threatening, bribes, wagers, promises, alliances, trust tells) are not tolerated and will be dealt with severely. Do not use dice or other luck-based methods to determine your actions.
2. (a) Only sign up if you know you're going to be at least fairly active. Take note of and abide by any minimum activity requirements.
2. (b) Do not deliberately play against your win condition. Do not manipulate others to play against their wincondition.
2. (c). Sportmanship should be shown. Salting, raging or ranting will not be tolerated. At the end of the day, mafia is played for fun.
3. Role PMs may not be shown to other users at any time. All forms of sharing of role PMs is banned. If anyone finds a person encouraging others to share their role PMs or sharing role PMs themselves, please be sure to report it. Do not use role PMs to scumhunt.
4. (a) Do not try to exploit any loopholes or circumvent the rules.
4. (b) Angleshooting is prohibited. This is included but not limited to submeta, hostmeta and using out of game information to form reads.
4. (c) Do not mislead the host or do anything to interfere with the host's ability to run the game smoothly.
5. (a). You may vote users during the day by posting in bold "Vote user" , unvote users by using "Unvote user" or not vote anyone by using "No Vote". Votes will not be counted if they do not follow this format.
5. (b). Votes can be in shortform as long as I understand who you are voting.
6. Do not edit or delete your posts, if you need to correct something make another post.
7. (a) I might not be in time to end day at deadline or hammer. In this case the game will enter into Twilight. You are allowed to post but not allowed to vote or unvote users.
7. (b) Night talking is disallowed (after the Night Phase is officially declared by the Host).
Any rule breaches will be judged at the discretion of hosts/staff.
