Saboteur!
Welcome to Saboteur.
Introduction
There are ten candidates. Nine of you are normal players, who will try to win! One of you is the Saboteur (for the entire game). The Saboteur’s goal is to make assignments fail and keep the amount of points earned as low as possible. Additionally, they have to try to stay hidden. The other candidates do not know who the Saboteur is, and need to unmask him or her.
The Saboteur gets to know each assignment at the start of the game. This way, they can prepare ways to sabotage them. Otherwise, they may get surprised and fail due to that.
The final round will be between three players: the Saboteur and two candidates. The candidate who does the test the best during this round is the winner of the game! This test will have 20 questions about the entire game, instead of just the round, so you’ll have to prepare well!
The Saboteur can earn points as well. The method how he earns points exactly is hidden, but the worse the assignments are done and the tests are made, the more points he’ll get. Whether the winning finalist or the Saboteur has more points determines the final winner, who will get a custom title!
Tests
After every second assignment the candidates take a multiple choice test about the Saboteur’s identity. The test contains ten questions (twenty questions in the final test) about the Saboteur’s activities since the previous test. The player who does worst in the test is eliminated from the game.
During some assignments, there is also the possibility of the candidates gaining a special token that can help them during a test. There are “Jokers”, which will automatically add one right answer to your score and “Immunities”, which will make you always move on to the next round. You can only use each token once. If you are eliminated, while owning tokens, they are removed from the game. You have to specify that you use the tokens when you send in the answers to the test. At any point, you may tell me to transfer tokens to someone else, this will then happen during the next update.
Every test, there will be a tiebreaker question. If two users get the same amount of questions right, this question will be used to determine who made the test the worst. If they both filled in the same answers for the tiebreaker question, previous tests will be used to determine who did those worse. Finally, if that’s a tie as well, it’ll be randomised.
Specific Rules
Although this game is listed as “Outside Contact”, it is not as simple as that. The degree to which you’re allowed to chat outside of (and inside of) the game depends on the situations. During some assignments there will be special rules as to what you can and can’t do, so sometimes you may only be able to communicate in a certain way. However, during the test phase, you’re free to talk to anybody and it’s recommended to try to get as much information as needed. You’ll need it for said test. Due to you not being able to communicate freely, there may be a lot of information that wasn’t directly available to you.
One thing that will generally be banned throughout all assignments is noting things down. During the assignments you will not be allowed to write down the information you got. This is to make some assignments more memory based. Writing everything down makes it too easy. You are allowed to note things down as soon as the assignment ends. You can write things down about a previous assignment, even if an assignment is going on. Obviously if you’re meant to do chat-based things, you can do that. I trust you to do this. This is to make the interaction between players more valuable, and some assignments rely on memory.
The assignments will have 24 hour deadlines, so having good activity is necessary. Please announce it if you’ll ever be away. I won’t sub you out immediately, but if it lasts a while I may have to. If it’s for one assignment, I may be able to make it work for one person less. Sometimes if there’s a decision to be made, deadlines may be less than 24 hours (probably 12). They won’t be too important, so it doesn’t matter much if you aren’t online during them, but it’s always good to check if possible. Regardless, you need to be willing to be active.
The assignments will, however, take place during the weekends. This means you got midweeks free, as you only have to do the test there (and you can talk to other players regardless during this period). Sometimes there will be something else during the midweek, but not something of great importance. Hopefully many people will be able to make the weekends (I can work something out if you can’t be there some weekend).
Secondly, you’ll need to be able to call (talk to other players). Some assignments will require people to talk to each other, so it’s important that you are able to. Whether this is on your phone, or your computer isn’t important, as long as you can do it. (I think nearly everyone has a phone, so most people should be able to do this. It’s not extensive, so you really don’t need to call for long times.) (Don't worry - this is not needed too often. If you can't, I may be able to work something out, but I'd prefer it if you can.)
A common strategy is for two players to form a “bond”, although it’s definitely not necessary. They’ll exchange information and their opinions to make sure they both pass the test, and if either is eliminated, the other one gets information on that he was wrong.
The Mafia aspect of this is that you have to find the person working against you! There are no lynches, no nights (unless you count the test phase as such), so it’s not a traditional Mafia game, but it’s going to be fun nonetheless! Be aware though, gamethrowing is still disallowed. If you gamethrow as the Saboteur you ruin the entire game and you will get punished.
