Classic
There are a number of basic roles that you should know before you play Mafia. A lot of other roles are enhancements or combinations of the following roles, so if you become familiar with those, you will be familiar with many other roles as well. They are also the roles we most often use during games in the Mafia room. If your role has a command, send them in to the host for that game. Classic starts Day 1 unless stated otherwise. Reworked by clc ironic.

Play Difficulty: [Easy]
Roles
MAFIA: The role that the game is named after. The mafia's goal is to control at least 50% of the votes. He can kill one player in the night phase. If he has partners, they have to collectively choose only ONE target per night.
Note: Mafia should say which one of them is performing the night kill; if the Mafia that's performing the night kill is killed by the WW or gets roleblocked by the PL, then the night kill fails. If no specific mafia member is named for doing the kill, then the host will assume that it's the first one to PM.
WEREWOLF: This is a role most commonly seen in larger games. He is just like a mafia and can night kill a player; however, he cannot be roleblocked by the Pretty Lady. I the werewolf is roleblocked by the Pretty Lady, their kill will redirect to the Pretty Lady (and if the PL is docced, then the Werewolf killed no one). He acts before the Mafia, so if he kills a Mafia "X", and Mafia "X" killed "Y", then "Y" will not die. The werewolf's goal is to kill all players, and in a 1v1 day scenario with town he will always win, and with mafia it would be a tie. In a 1v1 night scenario, the werewolf wins because of its increased night kill priority. In larger setups, the werewolf is immune to being killed by the Mafia. Commonly abbreviated as WW.
Note: Should the Werewolf be blocked by the PL, but chose a different target, only the PL is killed by the WW.
STRONGMAN: His night kill will go through even if his target is protected by the doctor or if the strongman is roleblocked.
ROLE COP: He targets a player at night to “inspect” and receive that player’s role. If the werewolf dies, he will be considered just a COP and will receive his inspection as Mafia or Not Mafia unless specified otherwise. He is one of the most useful roles sided on the Town side. In bigger games there can be a Mafia-sided Role Cop, which will receive the role regardless if the werewolves are alive or not.
Note: If this role is targeted by a Jailkeeper or Pretty Lady, he will receive "No Result" for the inspect.
NEAPOLITAN: He targets a player at night to “inspect”. He will receive his inspection result as Villager or Not Villager.
DOCTOR: He targets a player at night to “protect”. If anyone tries to night kill the player he chose, the kill will fail (that is, unless the Doctor is roleblocked or if their target was killed by the strongman. The doctor CANNOT protect himself. Commonly called Doc.
Note: Should the Doctor protect a PL who targets a Werewolf, the PL does not die.
PRETTY LADY: She can target a player and roleblock them for the night. If that player has an action at night (Inspecting, protecting, or killing), it will be blocked. Her command has no effect on villagers, and if she roleblocks the Werewolf, it fails and redirects the werewolf kill to herself. In bigger games there CAN be a Mafia-sided PL. Commonly abbreviated as PL.
Note: Because the Mafia Pretty Lady has higher priority than the Town Pretty Lady, the Mafia PL's roleblock will count, even if the Town PL blocked them.
JAILKEEPER: This role's target will be roleblocked and protected from 1 night kill. Functions as a PL and a Doctor combined. The Jailkeeper CANNOT Jailkeep himself. Commonly abbreviated as JK.
Note: The target is only protected from 1 night kill, so if the Werewolf and Mafia target the same player during the Night, the target will die.
Also Note: The Jailkeeper will not die due to roleblocking a Werewolf, unlike a PL.
VILLAGER: The most populous role in Classic. A villager has no commands in the night phase, but can vote someone out during the day. Since there are so many of them, numbers CAN be power. Commonly abbreviated as Villy or called Vanilla Townie (VT).
NAMED TOWNIE: Like a villager, but is named.
MAYOR: Like a villager, but his vote counts as 2. The extra vote is hidden, and publicly seen as 1 vote.
