Welcome to Gotcha!, a game of paranoia and cleverness to be played alongside your regular mafia activities. In this game all participants will be assigned a target in secret who they must eliminate by getting them to say a certain word or phrase. Each week you will be assigned a new target and get to choose between 3 words as your weapon. After you choose, think carefully on how to work that word into conversation, and when you catch your target off guard, shout GOTCHA! and send me the screenshot (and/or post it here for bragging rights!). Remember you get a new target every week, so there's no long term repercussions to going all out and not being subtle. When you assassinate your target, you take their target and word for the remainder of the week, so the game never stops!
Planned game start (and time of target refresh each week) is Wednesday 5/1 at midnight EST. Words will start off being more challenging to get your target to say (in my opinion), and get easier as the game goes along.
Example of word selection and elimination from the first time this was hosted:
Hello ZestOfLife, your target this week is Bored6886! Your word choices are:
Banana, Squash, and Data
You may begin hunting as soon as you choose your word.
(ZOL chose data)
Elimination by the goat:
Good things to know:
And one last important thing to know: being successful at the game is not surviving by not going online/hard lurking in fish, thats not playing the game in the first place. I dont want to set a strict minimum activity requirement, but I'd expect players to be online for at least a few (4-5~?) fishes a week. If your suspect your assassin is in your game, you should not turn to hard lurking or completely ignoring a player, as this both goes against the spirit of GOTCHA and the spirit of the mafia game you're actually playing. Again, if your response to suspecting your assassin is in game is to stop talking entirely, you may be subject to getting kicked from GOTCHA. Just choose your words carefully around others!!!
That's all I can think of, but feel free to ask questions when signing up! Also: sign up! Right now!! its really easy!!!
Minimum players is 8, with there being no maximum, but a stretch goal of 16! Get everyone you know to join in on the fun

- While I expect most of this game to be played on PS mafia, getting your target to say the word in nearly any context counts. This includes (but isnt limited to) other PS rooms or dms, forums, discord, or even recruiting someone outside of the game to help you out.
- Most importantly, the goal of this game is to be played alongside regular mafia, not replace it. As such I would never choose a mafia term or player to be one of the possible words. Importantly, this means you are also not allowed to play a mafia game with your word in your username, or create/flavor a setup with your word as a role/action as this would make playing mafia way too hard. By the nature of how forums is played, quoting a post with a word in it also will not count for the sake of elimination. These three very specific cases are the only disallowed methods of elimination, everything else is fair game (including very similar things like making a theme title your word, or making your discord name your word).
- Different forms of a word (plurals, conjugations, typos) will all generally count as long as they arent completely transformative of the word. I would count something like "imagination" for "imagine," but probably not "confuzzle" for "confuse." Of course, I am the host and I have the final say in things like this etc etc. (but feel free to ask me if something would count when selecting your word!)
- My hope is to run the game until only one player is left, but if this takes too long having the most eliminations will be the tie breaker. Expect a run time of between 4 to 6 weeks, depending on how good you all are
