We've all been there, folks.
Mafia can be a difficult game to get into - whether it be the intense learning curve when joining your first game, possible hostility from experienced players, and simply new players being new players.
This thread is a public attempt to discuss what we can do (policy and room culture)-wise in order to help new players assimilate better into the room.
Any suggestions and discussions can be brought up here and will be looked at by staff.
Topics can include; -what resource should be readily available for newer players to properly learn the game? -what can the community think of and actively do to help newer players?
Feel free to bring up anything you would have liked to have when you joined maf for the first time.

I like to reach out in pm's post-game to compliment good plays and reads that new users have and tell them where they can improve, I think reaching out in PM's, in general, will help a lot. Also, auth can try to be more approachable to users. Make sure players aren't intimidated by yall that can help a lot. But imo focusing after a game and giving them compliments on certain plays and criticism goes a long way and I've seen a lot of players improve because of it.

I think that the list of terms can be included in /rfaq mafia. Took me like a month to understand all of them.

This is by no means a dig at anybody, but players can definitely be less hostile and more understanding towards newer players. Just think of how you felt when you were starting out, there's no need to be intense over newer players misplaying, instead tell them what they were doing wrong and how they can improve on that in a respectful way.

Feel free to bring up anything you would have liked to have when you joined maf for the first time. I am by no means active in the room anymore so take what i say with a grain of salt I think the most important thing for a newbie to pick up is Scum Hunting. In general, more easy to learn newbie-friendly themes that encourage Scum H unting (just 2-3 we don't need an that many) is very important for a newbie to get better at it. Classic is a good starting theme for someone who's never played before, but because of FTC & PLOP it encourages a more "let the PRs do the work" kind of feel which is nothing like how mafia is. The most important thing in Mafia is TEAMWORK, not individual play. While it is really cool when someone gets all the scum, people tend to forget that the best players are the best because they can convince people, which is an important part of scum hunting. Vanilla is a nice basic theme, but i think that more themes like Snaquaza's reporter theme that don't have broken setups and encourage Scum Hunting would be nice. As much as we clown him for his music taste, Spiderz guide is a great thing as well. Having all that information in one spot from someone who has been in the room for a long time is great. I think more guides on different topics such as theme making, Town Hunting, and breaking down particular themes would be a good thing and I'd gladly assist on that since I used to make guides like that as well. I also wouldn't mind staff tips as most of them have been in the room longer than most regulars & understand things a bit better because they have to play & host (official) a lot more than the regular player so they often see and can pick up the common patterns of scum / town a lot more easily. Salts not nearly as bad as it used to be but its still there every now and then. Cant stop everyone tbh Might edit this as i come up with more but these are things off the top of my head. Edit 1: wow the difference between mobile and computer cleaned it up so its easier to read tend to ramble a lot

i cant remember which game did it
!tutorial
unib opens up a game with you , another bot, and maybe a few other bots(preferably a 5p-7p game; so town can know what prs are etc)
the entire game is scripted; probably like a choose your own adventure game where depending on what you say or who you visit will determine what they say etc
preferably with unib pming you how to do stuff, and thats it

ngl im prob one of the reasons that mafia is so hard to get into for me if u play mafia ur gonna get the rough treatment regardless of who u are or how long u are playing a scummy act of a new player is just as scummy as a scummy act of an old player.(is this a tongue twister)keep in mid this is my opinion and what i do every game
i also prefer to cull out the ppl who lurk and filler cus they arent gonna do much at the crucial point of endgame example: wnaf the most overplayed 4pl theme d1 scum is lynched and out of the 2 townies decides to clear the new inexperienced one boom the noob is now forced to listen as the 2 crossed players argue that the other is scum barley understanding anything then the cleared townie takes a random lynch which could end both ways.
noobs can get used by scum and bad players who want to push them to get weak towncred which is why they have to get lynched over and over until they do the dark souls play and just git gud
ps change every lynch into votes if yall like it so much
the best way to learn maf is just play play and play more but if host could do as yashgren once did and comment on everyones acts b4 ending the game that could prob help alot
