The Metropolitan Museum of Art's Costume Institute is holding its annual fundraising gala, and this year's committee has extended an invitation to the members of the PS! Mafia community. There's only one problem: the committee chair has been diagnosed with Trash Taste. In a last minute decision to preserve the integrity of this prestigious event, I, Schiavetto, have been appointed as interim chair.
I'll need your help, of course. The Met Ball is known not only for its exclusive guestlist and luxury status, but also for the provoking themes chosen each year. Often the subject of much media attention, the gala's annual themes dictate the attendees' fashion choices and set the overall tone for the event. In order to fully ensure that this year's gala is up to par, I ask that you join me in conducting a re-evaluation of the past years' themes with the aim of allowing only the highest standards of taste. See, this is no ordinary Met Ball. I now present to you: That's right folks, it's a walrus. For those of you out of the loop, a walrus is a music-ranking competition where the host gives a list of categories, and participants submit songs to match those categories. I'll be providing you with some example tracks to help you get a feel for each category, but in the end each participant must decide on one song per category. After listening to the submissions, I'll be ranking them based on how well they fit the category, as well as how much I can get into the song. For an idea of my taste overall, check out ...my Last.FM profile: www.last.fm/user/vocexdelxvuoto...my Spotify Year in Review: open.spotify.com/wrapped/79c7efeb5c9acb20e6a94e61e9c561589add9423...and my Spotify Decade in Review: open.spotify.com/wrapped/91d49c07c86898f59469a3f75b69179333799a0bSubmission Guidelines1. You may only submit one song per category, and you must submit for all categories. 2. Please send all submissions through PMs here on forums, including "Schia Walrus" in the subject line. 3. Your submission should provide a place to listen to the tracks. Youtube, Spotify and Soundcloud links work well--just be sure to use an official link, to avoid issues with copyright blocks or making sure it's the right version of the song. 4. You can pre-in, but to be listed as a participant I must get a complete submission from you. 5. You will have two weeks (Sunday the 29th) to complete your submission. Scoring Guidelines1. Each track will be scored out of ten (more or less an even split between how well it fits with the category and personal preferences, with some points for originality) 2. Pander at your own risk; your submission should stand out. I'm looking for good tracks, sure, but also new and interesting. Don't think you can skate by with only Mariah Carey ;o 3. Be bold, be daring, be original. 4. Your lowest score will be removed, after which I will add up your score from each category to produce your final score. 5. Because I feel like it: Winner will get a Discord role and a custom emoji. Participant List1. Spiderz 2. C7 numbers 3. Gimm1ck 4. Contact Light 5. ForgotToFlush 6. vooper7. For this category, I want your most pompous, arrogant tracks. Show me you mean business. Sample tracks: King Kunta by Kendrick LamarElevate by DJ KhalilMomma's Calling by EARTHGANG2. Alexander McQueen: Savage Music [x]
I want angry music. I want pissed-the-fuck-off music. I want to hear someone get read for filth. This category is for burns, roasts, disses, rants, and everything in between. Sample tracks: The Story of Adidon by Pusha TGet Gone by Fiona AppleThe Takeover by Jay-Z3. Schiavetto and Prada: Impossible Conversations [x]
Some things can't be expressed with just words--it takes a bit of soul to get your feelings out. For this category, I'm looking for soulful tracks where the artist wears their heart on their sleeves. Sample tracks: Solo by Frank OceanBittersweet by Lianne La HavasGlory Box by Portishead4. Punk: Chaos to Couture [x]
For this category, I want tracks that are rough around the edges, gritty but good, unpolished but powerful. While punk is preferred, songs of other genres are more than welcome (and may even net you some points for originality). Sample tracks: Your Best American Girl by MitskiDiamond Mine by Hop AlongKing Park by La Dispute5. Charles James: Beyond Music [x]

Sample tracks: Cap Diamant by Coeur de PirateSiempre Me Quedará by BebeViernes by El Trio de Omar Rodriguez Lopez7. Manus x Machina: Music in the Age of Technology [x]We're fortunate to live in a time where music doesn't just mean a voice and some strings. New technologies are constantly changing how music sounds, and letting more and more people make music in new and exciting ways. For this category, I want synths, I want vocoders. Rei Kawakubo/Comme des Garçons: Music of the In-Between [x]The thing about covers is that when they're bad, they're awful--but when they're good, they're fantastic. A good cover brings up all the nostalgia of the original song, while infusing the track with new and unique flavor. For this category, I want covers of the highest quality--covers so good, you forget who wrote the song in the first place. Sample tracks: Lost by Frank Ocean, as performed by Jorja SmithSince I've Been Loving You by Led Zeppelin, as performed by Corinne Bailey Rae Doin' Time by Lana Del Rey9. Heavenly Bodies: Music and the Catholic Imagination [x]Take me to church, guys.
